
David Gotz is Frances Carroll McColl Term Professor of Information Science at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Information and Library Science (SILS). He is also faculty for the Carolina Health Informatics Program and, by courtesy, a Professor in Computer Science. In addition, Dr. Gotz is the Director for UNC's Certificate in Applied Data Science (CADS) program.
Professor Gotz's primary research focus is on the study and development of interactive visual methods for information analysis and communication. His work combines data visualization, human-computer interaction, statistics and machine learning to solve complex data-driven problems. He has conducted research on these topics as applied to a variety of application areas over the years, with a recent focus on healthcare and life sciences.
Professor Gotz leads the Visual Analytics and Communication Lab (VACLab) and oversees its various research activities.
