Software Release: Co-Op Library for Counterfactual-Based Visualization Systems
The first release of a Python-based library for counterfactual visualization is now available.
A new open-source Python library, Co-Op, has been released on github. This beta version of the Co-Op library implements the eoperator-based framework for counterfactual-based visualizations we first proposed in our 2024 Information Visualization journal article titled “A framework to improve causal inferences from visualizations using counterfactual operators”. The lead developer of Co-Op is Arran Zeyu Wang, a PhD student working with VACLab teamates David Borland and David Gotz to design and implement the library to facilitate faster and easier creation of counterfactual logic for interactive visualizations..
The Co-Op library can be found on our software page along with several other software tools developed by VACLab members over the years.
Both the Co-Op library and the research underlying its design are made possible in part by the National Science Foundation under Award #2211845.
